The biggest difference is elasticity. Epoxy forms a hard, rigid layer that looks good and is strong, but barely flexes. When the substrate moves due to temperature or settling, epoxy can crack or delaminate. Polyurea, by contrast, stays flexible and bridges cracks in the substrate.
Polyurea also cures extremely fast, often within seconds, whereas epoxy needs hours or days. As a result, a polyurea surface is usually ready to use again much sooner.
For swimming pools, roofs and terraces on the Costa Blanca, where large temperature swings and structural movement are normal, polyurea is therefore the more durable choice in most cases.
Epoxy is not always the lesser option, though. On an indoor floor that has to be flat, hard and easy to clean, where the substrate does not move and no sunlight reaches it, epoxy performs very well. A garage, a workshop or a storage area are typical examples.
Outdoors the picture changes. Epoxy is not UV-stable and yellows in the sun, while the substrate keeps moving in the Spanish heat. If epoxy is the more sensible answer in your situation, we will say so.
