Frequently asked questions about pool renovation

Does the pool have to be completely empty, and how long can I not use it?

Yes, the pool must be empty and dry before we start. A complete renovation takes five to ten working days on average, and the topcoat then needs seven days to cure before the pool can be filled. So allow roughly two to three weeks without swimming. Please empty the pool in consultation with us, because an empty shell can float up where the groundwater level is high.

What happens if more damage appears once the demolition starts?

We show you the damage first and discuss the options before carrying on. The inspection beforehand gives a good picture, but old tiles and plaster can hide cracks, hollow areas or deteriorated concrete. Repair is part of the job: filling cracks, concrete repairs and, where needed, levelling with a cement-based mortar, roughly 15 kilos per square metre for a layer of one centimetre.

Can the lighting, skimmers and inlets be renewed at the same time?

Yes, and that is the logical moment. The pool is empty anyway, so we replace lighting, skimmers, inlets and technical penetrations before the membrane goes on, and finish every penetration watertight. Those connections are exactly where older pools start to leak. Drilling afterwards means opening up the waterproofing again, so include these wishes at the quotation stage.

Can a renovation be carried out in high season, or is it better outside the swimming season?

Technically we can work all year round, but bear in mind that the pool is out of use for the whole run plus seven days of curing. Owners expecting guests or holiday lets in summer therefore usually plan the work in spring or autumn. We work Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Friday until 13:00. Rain and extreme weather can shift the schedule, so the dates we give are target dates.
